Frequently Asked Questions

Does Florida law require condominium board members to take specialized training?

Yes. New board members have 90 days to complete a training curriculum approved by the Division of Florida Condominiums, Timeshares and Mobile Homes. Otherwise, you are required by Florida law to sign and submit a broad written certification that meets specific statutory requirements, which must be retained by the secretary and made available for inspection for at least 5 years.

As a Division-approved condominium education provider, you can avoid the written certification requirement by taking The Human Equation’s online training.

What happens if I don’t take Division-approved New Board Member Education?

New board members who fail to complete Division-approved New Board Member Education must certify in writing to the secretary of the association that:

  • he or she has read the association’s declaration of condominium, articles of incorporation, bylaws, and current written policies;
  • that he or she will work to uphold such documents and policies to the best of his or her ability; and
  • that he or she will faithfully discharge his or her fiduciary responsibility to the association’s members.

Which courses satisfy Florida’s New Board Member Education requirement?

We offer a 2-hour crash course and a comprehensive 8-course suite. You can take either one to satisfy Florida’s New Board Member Education requirement.

Condominium Operations: A Primer for Board Members This 2-hour crash course covers the essentials of board membership.

Condominium Directors and Officers Management Suite for Florida Residents. This comprehensive suite of 8 courses covers the requirements and obligations of board membership in greater detail. [Note: You must complete and submit Certificates of Completion for every course in this suite to satisfy the training requirement.]

How do I prove compliance with Florida’s New Board Member Education requirement?

You will receive a Certificate of Completion immediately after completing the course. You can then print or electronically save your Certificate of Completion so it can be submitted to the secretary of the association.

Do I have to complete the course all at once?

No. Our Learning Management System tracks your progress and automatically bookmarks the last page you viewed. If you exit the course before completion, it will automatically open where you left off during your last session.

How long will I be able to access my course?

Courses are accessible for one year from the date of purchase.

How often are courses updated?

Our courses are reviewed and updated no less than annually to reflect legislative amendments to Florida’s Condominium Act.

Do these courses satisfy Florida’s training requirement for new Homeowners’ Association (HOA) board members?

No. The Human Equation’s new board member training has been approved for condominium associations, not Homeowners’ Associations (HOAs).
